Hi Jodie, can you tell us a little bit about yourself and your lifestyle?

Hi! I’m a travel blogger and photographer focusing on responsible travel. I cover everything from ethical wildlife encounters and conservation to transformative travel experiences and cultural immersion. Luckily, it’s a job I can do while travelling the world – in fact, I have to travel to do it! I realised that my audience was also interested in that side of things, and started my YouTube channel to cover all things about location independence.

What is your current destination?

I’m currently “stuck” in the UK with family, but I’m moving to Portugal in just a few days! It will be my first true home since I became nomadic in 2017.

Can you tell us a bit about the projects you are currently working on?

I always have so many projects on the go! As well as my travel blog, I’m currently working on a number of projects and events for location independence community I own, Location: Anywhere. We’ve had to postpone our South Africa blogging retreat until next June but have just launched a podcast in the meantime.

I’m also working on a brand new membership community to help entrepreneurs start and scales their business, which will launch on the Location: Anywhere Academy in August.

What do you like the most about being a Digital Nomad?

For me, it’s always been about freedom. I love being able to work when, where and how I want, while prioritising my life outside of work when I want to.

And what are the downsides of it (in case there are any)?

Oh there are definitely lots! In fact, I wrote a whole blog post about them. The hardest things have always been health-related, but most of all I’ve really missed being able to have a pet. It’s one of the main reasons why I decided to buy a place in Portugal!

What is a place/country you liked the most while travelling and why?

Japan comes in a close second, but South Africa is my favourite country in the world. I spent three months living in Cape Town in 2018 and I’ve only just accepted that I don’t live there anymore. South Africa has everyone – beaches, wildlife, mountains and great food. Plus, the people are incredibly friendly and good-humoured.

Are you going to coworking spaces while you travel and work remotely? Would you like to recommend a certain coworking space?

When I’m somewhere for a while, I’ll usually seek out a co-working space. I loved Seedspace in Cape Town, but recently I’ve been heading to Selina. They have co-working spaces in most of their hostels around the world.

Let´s talk about community. Is there a special place/city that you particularly liked because of people/community?

Once again, that has to be Cape Town! There were always fun events to go, like stand up comedy or casual drinks. I know it’s a cliché destination, but I also really liked Chiang Mai for the community.

I can see that you are passionate about responsible tourism and ecotourism, can you tell us a bit about this your passion?

I love travel, but I really don’t love what it can do to the world. Done badly, travel is one of the most destructive things we can do, which is why I always promote sustainable tourism and responsible travel wherever I go. Ecotourism is also the only real way to experience the most magical parts of the world in an ethical way, especially when it comes to wildlife. That’s one of the reasons why my photography focuses heavily on wildlife.

Jodie, can you tell us what is your biggest dream?

I wish I knew! I’m super indecisive and change my mind a lot, but I’ve always wanted a mini goldendoodle.

Could you share with us the names of two inspiring digital nomads that you are following?

My good friends Ellie Quinn and Nellie Winter have both been nomadic for years and are incredible businesswomen.
